Western Atlantic Fishery Commission. Report of the third session of the Scientific Advisory Group. Bridgetown, Barbados 25-27 April 2005

This document is the final version of the report of the third session of the Scientific Advisory Group(SAG)of the Western Central Atlantic Fishery Commission (WECAFC) held in Bridgetown, Barbados, from 25-27 April 2005. Major topics discussed during the session included the status and trends of fisheries and aquaculture in the WECAFC region, the main decisions of the eleventh session of the Commission, which included the recomendation for the strengthening of the Commission. In discussing the main agenda item, the strengthening of WECAFC, the SAG suggested a process for strengthening of the Commission, which included a linkage with the PDF-B stage of the Caribbean Large Marine Ecosystem (CLME) project being developed by the Sub-Commission for the Caribbean and Adjacent Regions (IOCARIBE) that has similar goals to those of WECAFC on living marine resources. The SAG also sugested that the process for strengthening the Commission should also include the pursuing of the goal of self-sustainability for the working groups of WECAFC. The list of matters for the attention of the Commission is included in Appendix D.
