INFLUENCE OF ORGANIC SUBSTRATES ON GROWTH VARIABLES OF Phaseolus vulgaris L.
The present project was developed to evaluate various organic materials used for substrates processing and their influence on the growth of Phaseolus vulgaris L. For 67 days, there were established different substrates using sawdust and wood chips as a base and a mixture of compost (organoponic modalities), in the greenhouses of the El Progreso R.L cooperative located in the Province of Los Santos (Panama). These substrates were evaluated comparing them with a control and with a treatment where the cultivation of the bean carried out hydroponically. The trial had a completely randomized experimental design, consisting of five (5) treatments and eight (8) repetitions. The amount of beans produced per plant and the yield per treatment were evaluated, obtaining that the organoponic modality 2 (t3) (Compost 25% and sawdust and shavings 75%) had excellent results, generating a good yield using materials at a low cost. It is concluded that the use of organic substrates such as sawdust and wood chips, in combination with compost, provides the cultivation of beans with a growing medium and adequate conditions to guarantee a crop yield similar to that of hydroponic production.
