Importance of phophorus on (Sorghum vulgare) yield in red yellow podzolic soil

Glass-house and a field experiments were carried out to study sorghum yield responses to different nutrients in a red yellow podzolic soil. In both experiments there were significant responses in the dry weight produced, to phosphorus applied. In the glass-house experiment, lack of phosphorus reduced tillering and root development during the establishement period. The tillering of the variety "Fartura" was greater than the variety "Santa Eliza", but the difference in tillering did not affect the total amount of dry matter produced by the above ground portions of the crop.
