List of fish species for the upper and middle Patía River, Colombia

A check list is presented with 28 species of fishes, collected from creeks and main rivers of the upper and middle Patía river basin from Colombia. The family Characidae was the most abundant among the 10 registered, these represent 35,7% of the total species colected. A new genus of the catfish family Pseudopimelodidae is reported from Patía basi, and actually the diagnose and revision are in progress by Lehmann and Ortega. The material is deposited in the collection of fishes in the Museo de Historia Natural de la Universidad del Cauca. (MHNUC). This work is considered as a preliminary list, product of the taxonomic, sistematic and bio-ecological studies, actually developed the MHNUC and the Museo de Ciencias y tecnología of the Pontificia Universidade Catolica do Rio grande do Sul (MCP-PUCRS) Keywords: Neotropical fishes, Patía river, Colombia, checklist, diversity, icthyology, consevation.
