Libertad y dominio vs. Compromiso y dependencia en la pareja: dispositivos de feminización y de género
Some sociological and feminist researchers, in particular Carole Pateman (1988), have studied love relationships as “socio-sexual contracts”. This article addresses this issue by analyzing different theories and is based on two qualitative works, applying a gender perspective. In 2010, a systematical way of doing research on the matter of the representation of heterosexual couples was founded in Mexico City. For this purpose, a group of young people was interviewed twice: in 2002 and 2014-15. Some relative transformations were found in the socio-sexual contracts of five women and five men: near to their middle age, this group emphasized their way of relating to each other – a free and dominant way of being and thinking about love relationships. In contrast, in 2002, a majority of women stated to maintain a commitment, but also a dependency to their partner. A majority of men proved to prefer dominance and freedom in their relationships. The present article includes some considerations about the way these changes could be considered as socio-structurally.
