Modelado estructural para Los Andes Venezolanos, estados Táchira y Mérida
Los Andes Venezolanos se encuentran localizados en un sistema de grabens, los cuales estuvieron activos desde el Jurásico Tardío hasta el Neocomiense. La convergencia oblicua del Neogeno invirtió el antiguo sistema extensivo de fallas normales soterradas, reactivándolas como fallas inversas de alto ángulo y desarrollando un sinclinal en el Flanco Norandino en las secuencias sedimentarias post-rifting suprayacentes. Se reconocieron dos tipos de estructuras debajo del sinclinal, las cuales acomodan los problemas de espacio generados. Una de estas estructuras es una zona triangular, limitada por fallas de corrimiento, retrocorrimientos, y fallas inversas de alto ángulo que cortan al sinclinal, mientras que en otras secciones el espacio por debajo del sinclinal se encuentra relleno por una cufia de rocas de basamento disectadas por un abanico de fallas inversas ciegas o enterradas. Abstract The Venezuelan Andes match the location of a system of grabens active from Late Jurassic to Neocomian. Neogene oblique convergence, turned the old extensional system. The perpendicular component inverted the buried normal faults as reverse high angle structures, developing a mountain from syncline. In some sections, a triangle zone is recognized below the syncline. the zone is bounded by thrusts, southeasterly vergent back:thrusts and high angle reverse faults that cut through the syncline. In some others sections however, the space below the syncline is filled by a wedge of basement rocks. It is suggested that the structure evolved from early fault-bend folding with relatively little shortening, to a fault-propagation folding.
