Efecto del fuego sobre la fertilidad edáfica y las comunidades microbianas en el Chaco occidental argentino

A study was carried out to evaluate the effect of fire on the some chemical properties and the soil microorganisms at the Chancaní Forest Reserve of Córdoba Province. The sites were a native forest and a grassland with burned and unburned patches. Soil samples were taken immediately after fire and after periods of 30, 180, 360, and 720 days. The following chemical and biological parameters were evaluated: pH, total nitrogen, N-NO3, organic matter, soil respiration and soil microorganisms density. As a result offire, significantlossesin soil organic matter content and decreased pH values were observed, together with an increase in nitrogen and N-NO3, Soil respiration and microorganisms were strongly affected with exception of those with resistance forms. The conditions observed were stable over the two years of study, nevertheless, there was a tendency to recover the original values.
