Estimation of residual lignocellulosic materials as adsorbents of chromium and lead
Residual lignocellulosic materials of plant origin can be used as adsorbents of heavy metals present in water, promoting the adsorption of metal ions on the surface and active sites of adsorbent materials of natural origin, resulting in efficient and low-cost removal. In this case, the residues of the agroindustrial exploitation of fique sawdust (Furcraea macrophilla) and the agricultural residue of the corn husk (Zea mays) were studied as adsorbent phases of the chromium and lead metals in order to assess their capacity as adsorbent of these metals present in water samples. The results found show that the fique fiber has an adsorption capacity of Cr and Pb of 7.81 ± 1.40 mg / g and 169.51 ± 1.37 mg / g respectively, observing according to the experimental data a form of isotherm Freundlich type adsorption; while corn husk fiber has an adsorption capacity of 13.35 ± 3.28 mg / g for chromium and 15.01 ± 3.47 mg / g for lead, graphically showing a behavior in its type adsorption isotherm Langmuir.
