A natural arch in the Tobatí zone, Cordillera department, Paraguay

The presence of a natural arch is reported in the Altos mountain range. This structure is composed of sandstones from the Cerro Jhû Formation, which is part of the Caacupe Group and belongs to the Lower Paleozoic Ordovician - Silurian System in Eastern Paraguay. The arch was shaped by mechanical weathering and selective erosion in fluvial environments, where the less resistant sandstones were removed forming the vault, while the silicified ones remained establishing the stone lintel. Tectonic control was relevant in determining the direction of erosion and landscape configuration.
