Poultry manure Evaluation in the control of Plasmodiophora brassicae in cabbage
Club root, a disease of crucifers caused by Plasmodiophora brassicae fields does not have an ettsctive chemical control in Colombian cabbage crops. In this experiment, both poultry litter and poultry manure application were tested as a means to control the occurrence of the in a naturally infestedcabbage field in the savanna of Bogotá (Colombia, South America). Cabbage seedlings of Bola Verde variety received the application of poultry litter or poultry manure at transplanting, sixty days after germination. Four doses were used, in g/plant: 100,200, 300 and 400 of poultry litter, and 50, 100, 200 y 300 of poultry manure. At harvest, 120 days after transplanting, cabbage was harvested and yield, incidence and severity were recorded. All plants showed the presence of the disease, but with different levels of severity. Mean disease index in non-treated plots was 9.9, significantly higher than the disease index showed in treated plots. Attacks were less severe in plots treated with poultry manure, compared with plots treated with poultry litter. The lowest disease index of 6.6 was obtained with 300g of poultry manure.
