Avian Influenza and the environment: an ecohealth perspective

This report argues for a balanced approach: taking the necessary steps to restore healthy human-dominated ecosystems and wild ecosystems as major strategies for reducing human health vulnerabilities to avian influenza. The Scientific Task Force to the Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals recognises the importance of precautionary and preventive approaches, and calls for “improved standards in poultry farms, farming, and marketing practices.
