Presencia de residuos de organofosforados y carbamatos en vegetales orientales, La Vega, República Dominicana: Presencia de residuos de organofosforados y carbamatos en vegetales orientales

The Dominican Republic is one of the pioneer countries in the production of oriental vegetables (OV) in Central America and the Caribbean; this highlights the importance of this activity in the Dominican economy. However, the presence of pesticide residues has constituted a barrier that has limited the commercialization of these OVs in international markets, mainly in the United States, bringing important repercussions for the country and the various actors in this sector. The objective of the research was to determine types of residues, molecules and concentrations present in Indian cundeamor fruits (Momordica charantia), chinese aubergine (Solanum melongena) and long beans (Vigna unguiculata) from producers' plantations. The concentration of organophosphate and carbamate molecules was quantified in selected vegetable fruits by extraction through rapid bioassay for the molecules under study. Five plantations located in three localities of the municipality of La Vega were selected. In each plantation six sequential samplings were carried out (6 samplings * 3 locations * 5 plantations) for a total of 90 vegetable samples processed per molecule. The results showed a sample with pesticide residues in chinese aubergine and green beans, while no residues were found in cundeamor. In the first, the values were outside the allowed limit and in the second they were acceptable. Therefore, it is concluded that the vegetable producers are making good use of the agrochemicals applied, because in general, the samples did not present a worrying degree of residues.
