Teacher education in Pakistan

The goals of democratization of education stated in the Education Policy of 1972-80 of Pakistan entailed the revision of the teacher education curriculum of both preservice teacher education and inservice teacher education - To relate education to socio-economic development and employment opportunities a shift from a general to an agricultural and technical oriented education was necessary. New fields of specialization like industrial arts, commercial education and home economics were introduced in teacher education. It is intended to upgrade the primary teacher training institutions to the level of teachers colleges. Efforts are also directed at the training of primary school teachers in the use of the newly developed kit of instructional materials for primary schools.
