Distance education systems in a number of countries

This excerpt from the TRU commission report (SOU 1975:72) relates organization and methods of open colleges mainly in UK, Germany FR, France, USA and Canada - The materials and the multimedia instruction approach developed by the Open University in UK have been used in other English-speaking countries. The Fernuniversität Nordrhein-Westfalen is modeled on this University. The Telekolleg, also in Germany FR, uses educational television accompanied by written materials and group teaching to prepare students for examinations qualifying for middle level colleges. The Polytechnika telewizyjna in Poland provides inservice courses to workers through television, printed material and study centres. Educational radio and television are also used in several projects in France. In USA, university extension serves primarily adult education. In Japan, secondary correspondence schools and colleges are run by the Broadcasting Corporation. Bibliography p. 65-68.
