High School Learners' beliefs and their Influence on the development of lexical competence

The aim of this paper is to explore the learners´ beliefs regarding vocabulary learning. It analyses the results of a survey and two vocabulary tests carried out at three secondary schools in Córdoba, two state-run and one private school. It further aims at establishing connections between the learners? beliefs and their performance in the tests. This study seeks to contribute to the current research on vocabulary acquisition and instruction as well as inform teachers? practices.
