Separation of arsenic from antimony and bismuth in an eluate
[EN] The instant invention relates to a method for separating antimony and bismuth from arsenic in an acidic aqueous medium, wherein the method comprises (a) contacting the acidic aqueous medium containing antimony, bismuth and arsenic with an organic phase, wherein the organic phase comprises an alkylphosphine oxide as an extraction agent; and (b) separating the acidic aqueous medium from the organic phase, wherein the arsenic remains in the acidic aqueous medium and wherein the antimony and bismuth are extracted into the organic phase, wherein the acidic aqueous medium is a hydrochloric acid solution, and wherein the hydrochloric acid concentration is between 1M and 6M. The methods of the invention can be used to recover high value by- products (antimony and bismuth) and to safely remove toxic by-products (arsenic) from the hydrochloric acid solution that is generated during the regeneration of the ion- exchange resins typically used in the electrolytic refining of copper.
