Adaptation of the forecasting system to control black leaf streak disease of bananas in the specific conditions of Dominican Republic
With dry climatic conditions, Dominican Republic is supposed to be an ideal situation for implementation of a biological forecasting system to control black leaf streak disease. Three trials were followed on banana farms of the north western region of the country. Despite of bad organizational issues, and evaluated loss of sensibility to some fungicides, significant reduction in the annual number of applications was realized, ensuring good fruit production and exportation. Still, better results could have been reached through collective reorganization of the control within all the producers associations.
