Summary Report of the Consultative Council Meeting, January 27-28, 1999

Report of the first meeting of the CGIAR Consultative Council, held in Brussels on January 27-28, 1999. The Consultative Council, whose membership was selected by the Chairman of the CGIAR, was established at CGIAR International Centers Week 1998 as a mechanism to address issues raised by the 29 recommendations of the third System Review. The meeting focused on those issues requiring ongoing attention.The Council assigned TAC, CDC, CBC, the Chairman, Centers, and the Finance, Private Sector, and NGO Committees responsibilities for following up on different recommendations, which it grouped under the headings science, partnerships, governance, and finance. It asked for decisionable proposals at the CGIAR 1999 Mid Term Meeting in Beijing, where this report was an agenda document.The report contained as annexes a matrix of system review follow-up responsibilities and a timetable for discussion, a note on submissions from CGIAR committees, as well as the agenda and list of participants for the Council itself.
