Clockwork communicator
A revolutionary new radio has been designed that does not require electricity, or expensive and often difficult-to-obtain batteries, nor does it work by solar-powered re-chargeable packs. The Baygen FREEPLAY is a clockwork/wind-up radio. Twenty seconds of winding produces about forty minutes of listening time. The rugged spring has a life of between 10,000-30,000 winds, giving a listening time of between 7,000-20,000 hours. The radio can be used anywhere and is able to receive VHF-FM, MOO-AM and Short Wave frequencies enabling it to pick up world-wide transmissions. This innovative development means that information on health education and agricultural development can be made available to any community, however remote. Currently, FREEPLAY radios cost US$35-45 each depending on the quantity purchased. Delivery is at extra cost.
