Collaborative research programme on smallholder dairy production in coastal subhumid zone. Research on feed resource development. Background, proposals and preliminary results
Presents preliminary results of research on feed resource development conducted in the subhumid Kenyan coast. The studies are divided into two-systems studies and component studies. The systems studies include experiments on fodder production based on napier grass var. Bana grown in leucaena alleys and maize and cowpea production in a leucaena alley system. The component studies include napier grass (var. Bana), management study, a comparison of herbaceous legumes as companion for napier grass var. Bana., a study of maximising benefits of slurry on napier grass var. Bana, a study of slurry management for maize production, evaluation of leucaena and gliricidia germplasm, a study on the response of napier grass var. Bana to nitrogen and a study on the response of maize var. Pwani hybrid I to nitrogen.
