New ARICA 6 variety adapted to iron toxicity in lowlands increases the rive farmers income by USD 120 per hectare for 8,200 farmers

Iron toxicity is one of the most important abiotic stresses limiting rice production in SSA lowlands and affects up to 60% of the lowland rice area in West and Central Africa. ARICA 6 has shown that it is high-yielding, well adapted to plains and lowlands and very tolerant of iron toxicity. Impact assessment showed that ARICA 6 variety increased rice yield by 330 kg ha-1 and net income by USD 120 ha-1.
