Developing a Continental Climate Change Strategy: Reflections from the African Union Climate Change Strategy and Action Plan (2022-2032)

In 2009, African Heads of State and Government mandated the African Union Commission (AU Commission) to develop a continental Climate Change Strategy. This Info Note reflects on the key steps, processes and timeline towards the formal adoption of the Strategy and Action Plan in 2022, as well as highlighting next steps. It presents a unique perspective on the Strategy development process, drawing on insights from the AU Commission team directly involved in developing the strategy and technical experts who provided support to them.
