Utilización de isoenzimas como marcadores genéticos en Saccharum

A study was done of the use of electrophoretic technique on polyacrylamide gel for the identification of varieties and for recognizing hybrid progenies in Saccharum. The isoenzymatic patients were characterized by peroxidases and esterases in nineteen varieties of sugar cane. It was shown possible to distinguish the zymograms of the two systems, given the existing intervarietal variation, and thus the method may be used as a means of identification. An analysis was done of the S.officinarum (female progenitor) S. spontaneum (male progenitor) cross; and of S. officinarum S. robustum (male parent) The parental band complementarity in the hybrid offspring could provide a possible means of detennining the real male progenitor, so long as the maternal material is has a smaller number of bands than the paternal material.
