Clay mineral composition of the core sample obtained from the bottom of the Japan Trench by TAKUYO in 1959.

The core sample obtained from the bottom sediment of the northern Japan Trench was analysed clay-mineralogically. The principal clay minerals consisting of the minus-two micron. fraction of the core sample are illite, montmorillonite, and chlorite. It was confirmed that the relative amounts of these clay minerals do not show noticeable variation from portion to portion in the core sample obtained.
