Observation of July 11,1991 total solar eclipse.
Observation of contact times at the 1991 July 11 total solar eclipse was made by the Hydrographic Department of Japan (JHD) by means of flash spectrum cinematography method. Reduction of the observation gives the following correction to the relative position and semidiameter of the Sun and the Moon to be applied to the tabular values in the ephemeris: Δ(λS-λM)= -0.20"±0.02", Δ(βS -βM)= -0.50"± 0.07", Δ(rs -rM)=+0.51"±0.02". (4615A) Comparing this result with those for the past eclipses observed by JHD by the same method, a significant change in the radius of the Sun is perceived. The effect of errors in the lunar profile charts on the result is also discussed. Key words: Total solar eclipse, Contact times, Ephemerides of the Sun and the Moon, Radius of the Sun.
