Active Faults Surveys in the Ise Bay

Hydrographic department carried out the seismic reflection surveys for the purpose of define the distributions of buried active faults and morphology of the basement in the Ise bay. Three active faults, Ise bay fault, Suzuka old fault and Shiroko Noma fault were found in the Ise bay. Vertical slip rates of these faults are estimated in the range of 0. 2m/ka to 0. 7m/ka from acoustic correation of the seismic profiles. The basement morphology of the Ise bay is also complicated because of buried active faults. Maximum thickness of sediments of the basin of Ise bay is more than 1700 meters. Result of the boring survey on the northern part of Ise bay fault suggests that the fault has not been moving since late Pleistocene.
