Influence of pollination on fruit retention in Devamachy hybrids of coffee

The influence of mode of pollination on fruit set and retention in 3 arabica coffee (Coffea arabica) Devamachy hybrid progenies was studied. The study indicated no significant difference among the three progenies in fruit set under either self or open pollination. Although fruit retention was favourably influenced by open pollination, the differences among progenies were not significant. Fruit retention under self pollination was significant among the F2 progenies, showing superior retention. Two breeding schemes to stabilize the productivity are presented.
