Advances in coffee management and technology in Zimbabwe 1980-1985 :

This report reviews the present state of development of the coffee culture in Zimbabwe; it describes the advances obtained during the period 1980-1985 and discusses further improvements based on national and international research. In the first section meteorological data are presented of the major production areas. The remaining sections deal with the following aspects of coffee: root growth and function; inter-row mixed cropping; rejuvination and pruning; water management; plant nutrition and fertilization; weed control; the use of mulch; important pests and pest control (especially the stem borer, Xylosandrus compactus and mealy bug, Planococcus citri); important disease and their control (especially Fusarium rot and leaf rust caused by Hemileia vastatrix); fruit picking; coffee processing and by-products. Various designs of pulping-fermentation installations are included. (ATA 12(2):57987. 1987)
