A suitable coffee pruning system for Benkulen

A study of the rainfall distribution reveals, that the climate of Benkulen is actually too wet for coffee, in general the climate is of type A, which means "continuously wet throughout the year". Through a better upkeep and a more suitable pruning system however, it can be expected that the yield/ha might still be increased. It has been noted, that in Benkulen coffee trees bear only heavily at the age of 3 years after which the yield begins to decline; young trees (shoots) of 3-4 years are needed for high yields and periodic rejuvenation should be applied accordingly. To meet this purpose, the B-F pruning system should be regarded as the most suitable, for it insures the production of verticals not older than 4 years. This system of pruning is described in this article
