Stomatal studies in coffee 1: Diurnal variation in Arabica, Robusta and San Ramon

The diurnal rhythm of stomata in Coffea arabica cv. S.795. San Ramon and Coffea canephora cv. S.274 with different moisture regimes was studied. During the period of moisture stress maximum, number of stomata were open between 10 and 12 hrs. Maximum number of opened stomata were observed at 14 hrs when the soil moisture content was adequate. The role of atmospheric temperature and humidity on stomatal behaviour is also discussed
