Some aspects of photosynthesis and related processes in Coffea arabica L
Apparent photosynthetic rates in coffee were measured using a Differential Infra Red Gas Analyser. Photosynthetic rates were found to be optimun between 20 - 25{eth}C. Low light intensity of 600 ¿e m-2s-1 gave very nearly the optimum photosynthesis. High radiation, if the accompanying temperature rise remained unchecked, lowered the rate. Relatively high humidity increased the photosynthetic rate. All the three major elements viz., N, P & K increased the rate of photosynthesis of plants which had a good supply of these elements. Photosynthesis was no affected very much at the leaf water potential of -20 bars, but at -27 bars and below the rates were drastically reduced. The fourth and the fifth pairs of leaves recorded the maximum rate of photosynthesis. Practical implications of these studies have been mentioned
