Realidade actual da cultura e tecnologia do cacau em Sao Tomé e Príncipe
This communication describes the present situation of the culture and technology in some of the main agricultural enterprises in Sao Tomé and Príncipe. This work was based on information collected during a study done by the authors. The different aspects related with the culture, from nurseries to plantation maintenance, are described as they were observed in the enterprises studied. In what concerns technology, a description is made of the different stages of treatment that cocoa undergoes, from harvesting to selling the final product. Special emphasis is given to a few examples that show the changes that have occurred in cocoa technology as a result of the new social-economic situation.
