An investigation on the biology and control of Indabela disciplaga Swinhoe in Sabah
Indarbela disciplaga Swinhoe can be recorded as a new problematic borer on cocoa in Sabah. In a recent outbreak, as many as 50.000 to 80.000 mature cocoa trees were found to be infested. The borers feed on bark at night, spinning characteristic webs composed of broken wood particles and frass. During the day, the larvae reside under these webs or in tunnels within the wood. As many as 15-20 borers may be found infesting a single tree. Damage to bark, flowers, flower cushions and underlying wood can be serious, often leading to poor flower setting and death of branches above the point of entry.
