Zoneamento agrícola da regiao cacaueira baiana

From the various climatic, pedologic and topographic data available, the Bahian cocoa region has been divided up into eight micro-regions and 23 agricultural areas. Each has been outlined giving the most favorable methods for their agricultural utilization. Of the different zones three are given special attention due to their economic and/or geographical importance: (i) The present cocoa zone for which a better management for the actual cocoa is recommended together with the use of neighboring areas for subsistence crops to be grown at the farm size level; (ii) The grassland zone with its underutilized fertile soils, for which annual crops are recommended especially on the stone free undulating areas together with a better management of the existing pastures; (iii) The Souther Bahian humid lowland plateau zone, which is considered to have great agricultural potential in particular for perennial tropical tree crops due to the excellent physical characteristics (both internal and external) of its soils. In summary it is concluded that the overal region has good possibilities for the future as regards agricultural utilization, given its advanced infrastructure and good edapho-climatic conditions
