Geomorphic-Geologic mapping from remote sensors

The subsurface and surface features of the earth, geology-geomorphology, give character to areas at regional and local scales. A variety of processes, both natural and man-induced, work to keep these phenomena in a state of dynamic equilibrium. The importance of these features and processes to man lies in areas such as mineral exploration, site selection for particular land uses, evaluation of disaster potential, and aesthetic appreciation. Remote sensing provides a means for describing, delimiting, inventorying, and monitoring such phenemona; new perspectives may also be obtained. This chapter examines remote sensing research in geology-geomorphology with respect to sensor and platform data capabilities, regional and local data acquisition, and the qualitative and quantitative nature of the data obtained
