Recent developments in reproductive techniques of sheep and goats
Reproductive characteristics of goats and sheep are different. High levels of reproduction can only be achieved under optimum management conditions, including nutrition. This factor determines the dramatic differences in reproductive efficiency between the developed and the developing countries. The development of reproductive techniques is directed to solve or minimize the effects of these limiting factors as well as to make possible the application of more intensive systems of production and to facilitate the genetic improvement of the productive characteristics of the flock. The main areas of research activity discussed are manipulation of breeding cycle, breeding at younger ages, increasing fecundity, control of lambing, pregnancy testing, artificial insemination and embryo transfer in sheep. Reproductive techniques in goats are reviewed
