Birth weight and growth rate was reported in 71 native Nubian (N) and native Alpine (A) crossbred goats kids as well as in 976 native goats kids. They were fed with goats milk exclusively, then at 16 weeks they were weaned and fed grain and native legumes. The birth weight in N was higher than in A (2.70 vs 2.52 kg); in both the body weight of males was higher than of females (2.84 vs 2.55 and 2.75 vs 2.36 kg, respectively). There were no differences with birth weights of native goats kids (X: 2.74 kg). At weaning time, the average body weight of N was 10.34 kg, being higher in female than male kids (11.48 vs 9.39 kg). It was higher and significantly different when compared A and native goats kids (9.56; 9.16 vs 9.63 and 11.88 vs 8.48 kg; 9.51; 9.36 vs 9.08 and 10.27 vs 8.77 kg, respectively). From birth to weaning time, the rate of gain of N was higher than of A and native goats kids, in singles (86.3 vs 79.7 and 65 g) and does 58.3 vs 54.5 and 52.9 g, respectively). From weaning to one-year-old, the rate of gain was: 40.7; 43.3 and 42.0 g for N, A and native goats kids, respectively
