Proceedings
The cross-sectional method was used to determine the stages of development of both temporary and permanent rostral teeth in goats. The stages of development of teeth were correlated with the ages of goats maintained semi-intensively on four state farms. Eruption of deciduous rostral teeth had commenced in some kids at birth and development was completed by the fourth week. The mean ages of emergence above the gum line, of the first, second, third and forth permanent pairs of rostral teeth were 17.3, 22.2, 28.6 and 36.8 months, respectively. The first, second and third permanent pairs were fully grown by 21.1, 26.9 and 31.8 months, respectively. The minimum age recorded for goats with a full set of permanent rostral teeth was 36.2 months. The results are not kept useful in estimating the ages of goats where records are not kept
