Land clearing and development from forest vegetation for oil palm plantations

In the early years of the oil palm plantation industry in Nigeria, most jungle clearing was done by manual methods. In recent times, however, partial and complete mechanized methods are widely used. The procedures, labor requirements, costs and effects of some of the land clearing and development methods on soil properties and oil palm yield are discussed
