Beekeeping in Guadeloupe

The paper begins with general data about Guadeloupe such as population, production and surface of the archipelago which includes two main islands separated by a narrow sea channel. Then, it refers to tourism industry, the present situation of the beekeeping industry, present markets for hive products and the principal problems and constraints like: weak organisation among producers because of inability to reach agreement on actions; public authorities do not consider beekeeping a promising activity, deforestation; problems caused by the use of agricultural pesticies and for mosquito control; and sanitation problems. It presents two main projects in the planning stage: 1) processing of hydromel and queen production. (MIBA)
