Behavoir of cocoa clones cultived under different pit sizes
The shoot and root growth of two cacao clones (TSH-1188) derived from stem cutting were evaluated under different hole sizes planted in an Oxisol unit Una, in South Bahia, Brazil. The treatments were: holes of 20x20x20, 20x20x30, 30x30x30, 30x30x40, 40x40x40 and 40x40x50 cm. The experimental desing was a randomized complete block desing with three replications and 12 plants per plot.In the plant root system were evaluated: the dry wight, number, diameter, length and density of roots. It was observed that holes with depth of 40 cm and / or holes larger than 40x40x40 cm increased shoot growth (height, diameter, and length)(P 0,05) in both clones. TSH-516 showed mor efficient use of water when planted in holes with sizes 30x30x40cm.
