Vascular plants of the Caribbean Swan Islands of Honduras

The vegetation of the Swan Islands is interesting to those engaged in the Flora Mesoamericana Project, because politically it belongs to Honduras, but floristically it is totally Caribbean. One hundred and sixty one species of vascular plants are recorded, included in 51 families, 127 genera, 2 subspecies, and 5 varieties. Of these taxa, 33 (20 percent) are new for the country or do not occur on the mainland, notably the family Myoporaceae, and the genera Alysicarpus, Antirhea, Atriplex, Bontia, Coccothrinax, Erithalis, Harrisia, Pentalinon, Pilosocereus, and Savia.
